With great hope I took this cent to a dealer today. He takes one quick look at it and told me I wasted the cardboard flip. Oh well, it is still interesting and fun. jeankay
Your Dealer was right. This coin has fooled more than just you. That includes me. Keep searching. Rhubarb
69s Thanks. Just wanted to share the ups and downs of finds. It won't keep me from looking at every coin that comes into this house. jeankay
Hi Jersey, The mint mark and most of the date have doubling. It looks almost as if one had written the dates and letter then gone back and highlighted the curves and strokes with another color, but not actually changing the color. This picture shows the affect best on the S and somewhat more difficult to find on the numbers. I think it has been said that having both the mint mark and the date doubled on both mintmark and date are not usually found. (Don't know where I read/heard that, but that is how I remember it). Cheers, jeankay
jeankay: The DDO for the 1969 S Lincoln has an extreme doubling on the date, like the 1955 DDO. The mintmark on it is not doubled, since it was punched into the die after the die was created. It could be an RPM, but not in this instance.
(((The DDO for the 1969 S Lincoln has an extreme doubling on the date, like the 1955 DDO))) Hi Treashunt, I was thinking it was machine doubling, but hoping it was not. Now, where do I go about to find the real thing? Okay, guess I gotta keep looking... Thanks for your more knowledgeable observations. jeankay
jeankay: You are welcome. There is a story, perhaps true, that some (girl/young lady) needed money for tuition for college. She decided to search cent rolls, on the west coast, hoping to find one to pay for school. Needless to say, she found one ... and paid for her tuition that year. as they say (whoever they are) you can't find it if you don't look. Good luck to both of us.
If you are interested in buying one, there is one for sale over on the PCGS forum. I can try to post a link to it if you would like. Phoenix
But there is at least one specimen of the 1969-S DDO that does show machine doubling on the mintmark. So don't condemn a possible 69-S DDO just because the mintmark shows doubling. You need to look at the other features as well.
