'66 penny--is not copper--zinc?

I have a 1966 penny that appears to have no copper in it--none shows in the edge or either side. I would say that it has a shine to the surface. It seems to be a fairly normal strike. I've heard of unusual coin composition in the 1982 on series of pennys but I can't find any info on pennies with this fault prior to '82. It looks like the '44 steel penny but I presume it must be zinc. Thanks for any info---Curious in Tallahassee

Howdy dlnb - Welcome too the Forum !!

It is most likely that you have an ordinary coin that has been plated - they are very common.
