Both sides of the coin look copper to me - if you mean one side is a different shade of copper, that's just slight toning on one side - it's not an error coin of any type.
Yes, it would tone on one side only if the coin was stored flat at some point in it's life - could have been before you put it in the jar. This is not unusual at all....very common.
