I learned something this week. Until this week, I didn’t know that a 1961 Proof Half dollar VP-001 is the same as the FS-013. I understand from the NGC Website that they stopped using the FS-013 designation 2-years ago and began using the VP-001 designation.

Here are some photos of my new PF65. The plastic holder on this new PF65 piece is very scratchy. If NGC will permit it, I’d like to have them both re-holder-ed with the reverse facing forward.

I suspect that we should all make note of the NGC VP numbers and adjust our want lists and Web searches accordingly.

    Very best regards,

    VP?
    Vice Presidential?

    Very Popular?

    Various Purples?

    Verisimilitude Permeates?

    Violet Pukes?

    Violent Plastic?

    Okay, I give up.

The NGC Website refers to it as "Variety Plus". I was not familiar with the designation until this week.

Now, that certainly takes the fun out of guessing.

    Very Pretty = VP-001

It could stand for Very Pretty because the VP-001 has some cameo to it.

That's because nobody uses it except NGC. To the rest of the world the coin is an FS-013.

They use the VP for all different varieties. The 1873 DDO IHC is also a VP-001, etc.

    I like Very Pricey!
