1957-d lincoln wheat cent with a small die chip on wheat stalk , left obv, rr rims and partial collar, i hope you can see ALL the detail, i took a few pics, enjoy.. the front also appears to be struck through debris as well...shoulder, head and fields..
their is a space between the two fins of rim, and you can see where the metal was raISED WHERE RIM IS THINNEST..DOUBT IT IS DAMAGED, SORRY I HAVE TO DISAGREE ON THIS ONE..
I think it was encased also. Your coin it flattened on both sides. It cannot be a Partial collar on both sides?
Sorry, but you are wrong. This is from lincolncentforum.com Encased Cent (Ex-encased Cent): A cent that was once kept in a bezel as a piece of jewelry or “lucky” cent. Many of these ex-encased cents will exhibit damage in the form of a flattened rim from the bezel they were in. it starts on the rim slightly then gets larger till it kind of crosses over to double rim (rr rim)...and it definitely has die chip, and struck through grease or /and debris on obverse, lower shoulder on left side of lincoln's bust...and diameter is same as a regular cent, if damaged due to a coin holder, would'nt it be smaller?? i have even compared to other coins that i have in collection (some slabbed) that are like this one...
I guess there's only one thing left for you to do. Send it in for attribution and if it comes back being what you say it is then you can tell us we are all wrong. Good luck.
i do not have the 75.00 to verify a coin i paid 2.00 for, that is not economical, never have sent one in, never will, i will buy ones though if priced reasonably..sorry, i just disagree on this one paddy...
The characteristics shown on your coin do not substantially differ from any encased cents I have seen.
All have said previously encased cent. Don't worry. After a few more years you will get to understand what we see and know. Over and out.
From the previously encased Cents that I have seen in hand, two types of damage/alteration details occur to the coins.. The first is a Cent where the encasement wraps around the Cent and causes the damage seen on the Cent in question. The other is where the Encasement/Holder is pressed only on the edge of the Cent with such force it will alter the diameter. Hence make it smaller in diameter.
