What's the premium now days for $500 and $1000 bills? A friend of mine said a few years ago he owed a guy $500 and as a joke he got a $500 bill to pay off his debt. He said it cost him 7% ($35). Thanks, Douglas
Depending on condition, Series, and the Fed Reserve Bank designation, it can go for up to 4x face value! But again..it depends. RickieB
If anybody has any $500 notes that they're willing to sell for $35, I'll offer to buy them for $50. Not $550, just $50.
The lower grades for $500 you can buy them for around $700 to $800, in decent condition. Graded ones in the upper grades anywhere from $1000 to $2000. I forget if its the $500 or $1000, but if you buy the 1928 GOLD certificate, you're talking about HUGE money. The regular notes, are priced more down to earth. look on ebay for $500. look for one with no pin holes or tears. a few spots and a few folds on it, ungraded, and you might get it For Under $800 If you dont want to risk too much money, get 1934 series $100 bills for $125 each. The big money $100 bills are the 1966 series which has a red label on it.
The prices of these have gone up (fairly recently, as you said, a few years ago he got one for $35 over face). Not too many years ago, people used to just deposit them at the bank. I'm sure some still do.
I didn't ask my friend how long ago he paid 7% over, must have been several years. In 1965 I had 3 $1K bills, only had them about 2 hours, bought a Buick. Thanks, Douglas
