I am a coin collector but I came across a 1928 $20 federal reserve note and a $50 1928 A series fed reserve note. They both say "Redeemable in gold on demand at the united states treasury, or in gold or lawful money at any federal reserve bank." http://cgi.ebay.com/1928-50-FEDERAL-RESERVE-NOTE-CHICAGO-AU-4398A-/200549156990?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eb1a9487e#ht_1435wt_1037 http://cgi.ebay.com/1928-20-DOLLAR-FEDERAL-RESERVE-NOTE-CHICAGO-VG-3671A-/360337078612?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e5c37954#ht_1491wt_1037 They both look like the second bill. the twenty is from Chicago Illinois and the fifty is from san francisco california. Any guesses on the value?
Not even near my price guilds but they both look overpriced! The 50 was a fold though the portrait and the seller over exposed the photo, and the twenty looks like a reject! VG my %^* I'll guess $80-$100 on the first, and $19.99 on the second Again I'm not near my guilds, but anytime I see Chicago, I ussualy think high mintage. It's not the rule, but ohhh 8 times out 10 it is...
Ron, he was using those pics as examples of what he has found in circulation, not what he is considering buying. IMO those have little value over face if they are in the condition of the $20 example... Those are something that most people would like to keep, but they require sitting on so much money for no return, it's very hard to do. I have seen much better 50s/100s circulating from the "Redeemable" series. You want to take them out of circulation, but can't afford it... at least that is what I have seen when they crop up.
I just bought them from my banker to hold for a bit. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.. moving into college this weekend.
I get back saturday from california, I'll try to use my ipod to take a pic, my camera kinda broke but Saturday I promise.
