Ready to pull the trigger on my first gold coin. I am a WWII buff. I am now going back and forth on which one to go with. Proof with more contrast for the detail or a "gold" look of the uncirculated. Anyone with an opinion? A picture to post? (not a lot of good actuall pictures on the web) I am leaning to the proof but would welcome input.
Get both if you can. Personally I like proofs. But in the long one MS can be worth more on something's.
i vote for proof, would look awesome, an i dont believe price would vary much on gold between proof an unc. unless its graded MS69 or 70.
Supply and demand once again answers the question. Price is always determined by the ratio of those wanting the coin and those having one they wish to sell. When you see MS higher than PF, then there is an imbalance in either supply or demand or both. While patterns are usually priced higher than coins produced for circulation due to smaller supply, the 1859 pattern cent actually sells for less than it's production counterpart (high grade) because there are more collectors of production coins, even though still more in number than the pattern with fewer coins and fewer collectors.
Go with the uncirculated. In most cases they are produced in lesser quantity than the proof and have the potential of returning more if you have to sell in the future. Stevenn57 mentioned getting both if you can afford it. I used to do that but the last few years have been a little tight on me and getting one is my only option. Then again, go with what pleases you the most. Many collectors prefer the proof coin over the uncirculated version. Either way I think you will be pleased. Here's mine.....
