I have 2 Russian 5 Rubel gold coins with the 1899 date on them. My grandparents gave them to me over 30 years ago. I've done some research online and the prices for these seem to vary from $300 to $1500 although the higher priced ones are usually in a near-perfect condition. What determines the price variation in these 5 Rubel coins from 1899 and how much do you think the ones I have might be worth based on the photos included. Also, they both seem to be quite dirty. What's the best way to clean them? Or it is better to leave them as they are? thanks,
They've already been cleaned. That caused the hairlines on the front, and the crud in the small crevasses on the reverse is what's left over from a previous cleaning.
Well since they have been in circulation, mild soap and water would not do any harm. Nice Nicky !!!
I have similar items in silver from the same era. Some of these coins can cost quite a lot, others are worth under 50 $... if it's gold, you might want to get a certified slab box for it before you list it anywhere. Those sell a lot better, faster, at higher price!
