I just got this $5 red seal for $6. It has a bad pen mark on it but other then that, is still crisp and great condition. I was wondering if the extremely small margin on the right brings any added value to it? Thanks!

Don't think that margin help the value, in fact it probably hurts the value.

No that actually detracts from the value. Notes are funny in the sense that the better the note is centered the more desirable it is. But, if the note is miscut to the extent of removing some of the design...it is worth a premium. Unfortunately, the "area between" is considered less desirable.

I knew the more centered the better but I was wondering if the design almost cut off was worth premium. Ohh well Thanks guys!

I agree with thesse guys as well. True even margins add value and visual appeal to a note. Differences in margin width and wether or not it cuts into the body of a note does distract and subtract.

It seems like if the note is miscut to the extent where it removes some of the image of the note...it tends to be someone of interest to error collectors and thus increases it's value. It's not something that I would want, but I know people collect those.

But, in this case...not an error note. So, it hurts the value a bit. But, I would pay $6 to add that red seal $5 to my collection so I think the OP did fine with the purchase.
