Bought this a couple weeks back for $5 over spot at Apmex. It came "raw" but is really beautiful. I'd say it is probably a proof, if these came as proofs. I'm showing it along with the Silver Dollar and Clad Half set that I got when these were issued (I was 16). Really a great looking coin. I guess they made around half a million of them and sold them all at the time, leaving them not much above melt today. Any and all comments are welcome! Rob
Yes they did make proofs, and that is a proof !!! Apmex is great for getting coins at great prices even slabbed coins !!
Yep, they made a ton of them, hence the reasonable price. I think it's still an attractive set however and I have the dollar and half dollar set. I like them.
I bought both the Proof and Unc. sets back in the day and got a nice cherry wood box to boot. The set looks splendid in the casing. Still gots 'em.......
It's a proof and I think it is awfully attractive. The Olympic proof gold from 1988 is one of my favorite modern gold proofs, too.
