I recently purchased 347 coins, which is the most I've ever bought at once (these were all hand selected, not just in a big lot. I have five that I can't ID, and I'm hoping you fine folks can help. Two of these are from the same country, but I can't place it.

I thought the 1987 was from China, but can't find it in Krause. It seems like a communist theme, but I checked the usual suspects and can't place it.
The Islamic one, I read the date as 1222, though it could be 1333. I think 1222 would be somewhere around 1800, but I'd have to do the math. One side is worn to nothing, but hopefully you can help. Ottoman Empire is probably a good guess.

3rd coin I am fairly sure reads "Republic of Macedonia". A quick look in Krause confirms it as a 50 Deni from 1993, brass and worth around 10 cents US.

4th coin will probably be Turkey or Egypt - more likely the former. Date of 1223 would fit well with Mahmud II, but I must admit it looks more like 1233 to me, which doesn't fit. Many Turkish coins around that time have similar designs - an idea of scale might help.

It's about the size of a U.S. 5 cent coin, maybe slightly smaller. Or for your reference being from the U.K., about the size of a British penny. The Islamic 2 and 3 look very similar so it's hard to tell them apart, especially when the coin is worn. I know that some Egyptian and Ottoman coins used a frozen date on one side with a year of the ruler's reign on the other. If this one is like that then it will be impossible to determine the exact date. I will have to look it up when I get home.

Based on this size it is Egypt and a 2 piastre coin from the British Occupation period around 1916/1917 - Krause 317.1 or 317.2. Without clearer view of the other side difficult to be more precise.

I don't think so because I actually bought a 1917 Egyptian 2 piastre at the same time and it has the date in Western numbers and says 2 piastres right on it.

Have you got a copy of Krause? I am looking at page 712 of my 2009 edition, and the Egyptian 1917 2 Piastre is there under KM# 317.1 and 317.2 - it has no Christian date on it. The 2 milliemes, which is on the same page and has a hole in the middle made in cupro-nickel - that has a Christian style date on it...
If still in doubt, please post a picture of this other coin so we can see what you have?

I do have Krause at home but I'm at work right now. I'll check later tonight and see what I can find.

Paddy, I think you were correct. I looked it up and compared this to the other one I had. The 2 piastre side is worn off on this one. That's why I didn't notice they were the same on the other side.
