I've been sittin here staring at a 1944 S penny with my magnifying glas for 10 minutes trying to decide whether it's got the D or not.. I can't find an actual PICTURE of the error coin on google so I'm wondering just HOW obvious the D is .. with the magnifying glass the s looks rounded on the right and vertical on the left but I can't tell. My scanner died a few months ago so I can't scan it to try and get a better close up. At an angle it looks like I can see the D but I wanna know for sure how to tell.
The two varieties of the 1944 D/S I know of, the D is prominent with the S very faint and to the north or northwest.
This photo may help from one of my OMM2 1944 D/S. This variety does not show the top of the S to the north of the D as the OMM1 described by bennypenny. Sorry I can't give you a picture of that one too. I'm new at this so if need be I hope someone will correct me and give you the appropriate answer.
Following is a photo of the omm-1. 2b1ask1, from your handle I assume I can address you as brother. I asked and became about 10 years ago.
Brother is fine. About 15 years for me. Like the fellowship. Hope to find it in coins also. Thats a nice OMM1. Maybe these photos will give sportsnut218 some options to check out. I haven't had the chance to acquire one as yet. I'm still new at the coin collecting.
