Found a 1942-S Mercury dime with some doubling. It's only on the 2 in the date and B in LIBERTY, but it's strong in these areas. The other coins I have with machine/strike doubling look different. Nothing in Red Book. Couldn't find anything on the Coneca site. Any ideas?
Do I know of it ? No. But I will offer a bit of advice for posting pics. When trying to determine if a coin has strike doubling or is the result of a doubled die - it is extremely important that ALL parts of the letters in the legends can be seen. Notice how when you cropped the pics you cut off the bottom of the letters ? That's a no no. Look at the top of the B - see how there appears to be a slight notch on the left corner ? Well that notch is an indication that the coin is the result of a doubled die. So now you can see why it is important to be able to see the entire letter - all the way around it. I'm not knocking your pics - most folks here do a great job with closeups. But getting too close is as bad as being to far away. Understand ? By the way - it does appear to be a doubled die. And it may be a new variety That I don't know.
Thanks for the advice GD. I replaced the picture so the entire letter can be seen. Did I see the notch on the left corner? No. I was too busy looking at the doubling on the right! That's why I need your eagle eyes.
