Juat realized after 43 years, the special Proof Silver Bicentennial coins were minted in only 40% silver. I took it for granted they were 90% pure, like the old silver coinage. My question is, when did the US Proof sets start using 90% silver as they do currently?

1992 was the first year for the modern silver proof set.

The Prestige proof sets from 1983-1997 with exception of 1985 contained a commemorative dollar that was 90%.

Other than the prestige sets - normal proof sets began in 1992.

You have to keep up with the US Mint as changes occur constantly.

1858 :) All the silver coins in them were 90% silver. The proof sets before that were 90% as well but they weren't sold to the general public.
