Seated dimes are pretty rare to find more then 10% off center. This piece is 40% or so off center. The neat part about this piece is that the is the S Above mintmark variety because if it was the S Below the mintmark would have been off the design. These extreme off centers are hard to find because most people who would have seen this coin at the time would have thought of it as defective or even possibly counterfeit and would have scratched it, or holed it to make sure it was silver. Most of the far off centers you see have these issues. This is a rare survivor.

I'll probably get it sent in to one of the grading companies in the near future.

You aren't seeing the top of the reeding, you are seeing the end of the denticals.

The stars aligned perfectly on that piece, full date, perfect mint mark location, un-damaged. I'd say you have an exceedingly rare piece. Should grade out in the high XF end.

Wow! thanks for letting us see this error coin. back in the good old days before we had computers a coin like this was about impossible to find. when someone did find a awesome error coin or a piece of odd looking paper money it was really cherished and thought to be worth millions. after the computers and ebay came along the rarietys became less rare but are still valuable and priceless as a keepsake in my book. I love your coin because it still has it's original patina. a long time ago a lot of collectors wanted to clean their coins and keep them nice and shiny and this destroyed millions of coins.

This is a pretty rare coin. I can't remember seeing one this far off center without any major problems. There was a group of about 6 them sold a few years ago that were around 10% off center and if my memory serves me right they brought between $1000 and $2,000 each.

The eye appeal on that piece is superb!!! I love north to south off-centre strikes. Thank you for sharing!

One such as yours, given the quality and percentage off strike, should be worth exponentially more. Great purchase and addition to your collection or boost to sales, whichever, Its all good.

Just an update. This coin went into a PCGS AU53 holder. I'll post some pics when she gets back later this week or early next week.
