I'm waiting to receive this in the mail and I'm just wondering. Is it a good idea to get these older colonial type coins graded? Anyone care to guess a grade on this one? Worth? I'll list at the end what I paid for it.
Judging from the high points of this coin I say a G to VG IMHO...nice coin and 4 are had to find as more 8 were minted
Hiya Fret, I usually collect the 8 reales, your coin looks MS-15 to me. The Zs = Zacatecas mint. I really like the old standby 8 reales, heck they usually have chop marks on many of them. Here is one of my favorites, it has 5 Eights on it, including the chop mark 8 at the 1 o'clock position. Value about $8. Viva Mexico ~~~~~ Traci
Historic & original looking coin IMO your coin is a very original looking fine 15. It contains 0.39 ounces of silver. Krause lists the 1847 in fine at $15. Krause also lists an overdate 1848 over 7 for $20.
Fret...This ole timer 2 reales is a new addition to my collection. I would grade my own at MS-10... year 1827
You are too funny!! Wish I could keep up with you but you are way too fast for me. By the way, I saw a 4 Reales Guatamala on ebay last night. I can't access ebay right now b/c I'm at work but it looks really nice, kinda looks like a small hispanic trade dollar in a reales format. :high5:
It's this one! I saw on that other thread about the 2 Peruvian Reales where you posted that one Peru of yours. Lady was pointed in the different direction, very similar. Must have been the flavor of the month.
I like the crossed rifles.... So much like a US Combat Infantry Badge. Traci PS My peruvian was much better !!!!
