Good morning, I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are on the following.. The silver certs are from PMG and PCGS one is graded 30 the other is 40, which do you think is which and which do most like better? The gold certs are both PMG 20... again I'm curious which of those most like...
I like the top one over the bottom Silver Cert. because it just slightly appears to be in better condition. I like the second one of the Gold Certificates. Personally, I'd take any and would feel proud owning them!
I like the first one, the darker colors make it stand out where the second one seems almost bleached lacking that eye color appeal, silvers look XF 45 - 50 the last one has some pretty severe centering issues though.
I wouldn't be choosey about the gold certificates. They're a nice addition to any collection. What I find interesting is the fold on the gold certs. They run lengthwise as though they were folded and carried in a money belt.
I'd be happy to own any or all of those as I dont have any Gold Certs and my earliest Silver Certs are 1935A's The first Gold Cert and first Silver Cert are brighter so perhaps more appealing.
I was going to hold my piece about this post but now that you've mentioned brightness, I feel compelled to chip in. From my own experience, I have bought a couple of processed 1935 Bank of Canada notes (I just had to have them too). However, I paid hundreds for them ($ I could have spent towards unprocessed notes). The problem with the 1st 2 Gold Certificates is that they show far too much wear & not enough soiling. It just doesn't add up so, my gut tells me, they've been cleaned. Sure, they're nice to have, so long as you understand that they likely have "issues."
Yes that is a very good point, and something I had not considered with a cursory glance. Although unseen in the original post is this a detail that might be mentioned on the PMG holder? Perhaps rev1774 can enlighten us @rev1774
