Looking over my nickels.. I purchased a BU 1939-D Reverse of 40, Full Step last year and thought I went a little overboard on what I paid for it. Tonight I was taking a much much closer look at it and have discovered that
    a. it is a reverse of 38, not 40
    b. still Full Step and between MS63 and MS65
    c. most importantly it's reverse and obverse are most definately double die.

I wish I had a scanner capable of showing it.

Will PCGS identify it's double die (ness) when grading? or should I consider another grading company to identify this.

    Thanks.. :)

P.S. does anyone have a nickel guide that states other double die finds for this year-mint mark?

To the best of my knowledge there is only one 1939-D DDO. It has a strong spread on date, star, and LIBERTY. There are no DDR's that I am aware of.

As for PCGS, I think they will only slab designations found in the Red Book - so I guess the answer would be no.

If you really think you have found something new then I would suggest sending the coin to CONECA for attribution. If your thinking is confirmed then you could consider having the coin slabbed with the designation noted, possibly by NGC. But PCGS would not do it.

Hello I also have this and it was graded by NGC and it says here that there are only a handful that have been graded by them. Did you sell yours? Im looking to sell but cant figure out exactly how much it is worse any idea? thanks for your time
