HSN is advertising a 35-coin BU Franklin half dollar set in Dansco album for $299. Ebay prices seem to be higher for BU sets and Coast to Coast charges $650 for the set. Sarosi charges $325 for a AU-BU set. Any other places to look? I have a few other catalogs but I can't seem to find the sets for sale for less than $300. Could the TV guys be the cheapest this time? I'd be surprised... The coins shown on TV looked good, perhaps TOO good (cleaned?).
It doesn't sound possibe does it the HSN guys might actully be priced at a good value!!! There has to be some catch, or this is the end of the world, the HSN guys might be right!!!!
I think it's just the way HSN defines terms. "Brilliant" means cleaned. "Uncirculated" means they haven't sold it yet.
I can get a set of mixed grades for $99.00....but if I were you and wanted a set of BU Franklins I would put the set together myself...that is one way to know that your coins are BU and that you like them. Speedy
Ever hear the saying - comparing apples to oranges ? Well that's what you are in effect doing when you try to compare the cost one dealer charges for a Franklin BU set vs another. The term BU is just too generic. The only way to know what you are buying is to know the grades of the individual coins. And the only way to compare one set to another is if every coin in each set is graded the exact same for each date and mint mark. Just one or two coins from a given date and mint being just 1 grade lower in one set than they are in the other set could change the value by the cost of the entire set.
NO way, those rip offs at HSN are selling a real BU set for 299$,it must be a circulated set. I'm, just finishing my Franklin BU set which took me 5yrs and more than 600$to put together, but was worth the wait. It's a lot more fun and gratifying to build a set yourself, i'm shopping around right now for the best deal on a 49s Franklin to finish my set. HSN,QVC AND SHOP AT HOME charge some absurd prices,for example Shop at Home is currently asking 50 some odd dollars for the 05 silver proof set which is readily avalable from the US mint for 34$. Like they say "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is".
Correction the mint sells the silver proof set for 37$ plus shipping, I'm sure the TV guys will be doubling that price soon if they havn't already.
