    Welcome to the forum.
Probably Arabic, but a look at the other side would help greatly.

If you crop out the excess space around the coin, you can get a larger image with better detail within the size limits for attachments.

The 1974 Winnipeg commemorative dollar celebrates 100 years of the city. Before 1987 the 1$ coins were rarely seen in circulation. Since 1968, the 1$ no longer contain silver.

Look closely at the yoke of the horse-drawn carriage in the first ZERO of 100. 2,799,363 pieces were minted that year and the double yoke variety is rarer.

    .................MS-60.....MS-63.....MS-64.....MS-65
    Single Yoke.....2................5..........10..........25
    Double Yoke.....75..........125.........175.........350

The numismatic silver edition of the same design was issued at 3.50$ and 628,183 were minted. The value of a SP-65 coin is now 6.00.

all values in Canadian dollars, info from the 59th edition of the Charlton Standard Catalogue.

Your 1964 Half would be worth from $2.50-$4.00--its silver.

If you look on the left side of the bull/buffalo (after looking at my coin I found that it's not a horse afterall) pulling the carriage you'd see a faint rectangular shape on double yoke coins. The single yoke has the left side of the yoke missing.

I just looked at my specimen, nope, it's only a single yoke :\

    Heh such innovation!

Unfortunately that's just a single yoke unless you have another bit coming out from the other side of the bull/buffalo.

The symbol in the upper part of the second picture is a toughra, symbolic of the Ottoman Empire, and still used on many 19th Century Turkish coins, among others. That side definitely resembles the obverse of KM#730, a 7.2160g, .917 gold coin a little smaller than a U.S. quarter; but that coin has the El Ghazi symbol to the right of the toughra, and the one pictured appears to have the Reshat

I'm trying to get someone who reads Arabic to come take a look, but in the meantime, what is the weight and size of the coin?.

The drawing is too cute! LOL! I took the liberty to update it with its double yoke variety.

:) It's soooooooooooo much easier to ID a coin when you can read the language on it. :D

As I suspected, the coin is Turkish, dated AH1327, Yr 4 of the reign of Muhammad V (~1912).

If it is about 22mm (slightly smaller than a US quarter), it's KM#754, 100 kurush, 7.2160g of .917 gold. Up to Fine it's listed at bullion value - about $85; $100 VF and $135 XF.

If it is about 27mm (between a US quarter and a 50¢ piece), it's KM#756, 250 kurush, 18.04g, BV up to Fine -about $212, $350 VF, $425 XF.

Finally, if it is about 34.5mm (slightly smaller than a pre-SBA US dollar), it's KM#758, 500 kurush, with a listed weight of 17.54g, which doesn't make sense and is probably in error. Assuming it's double the same year's 250 kurush would give it an AGW of slightly more than 1 ounce. It's also BV up to Fine and $525 VF or $650 XF.

This example demonstrates the need for including the size in any posting seeking ID, as there are many cases where the denomination is determined from the size rather than from a legend. ;)

It's at least a VF and could be XF or even AU. :) :) :)

I have no idea about these coins, but the fellow I consulted didn't notice any obvious signs of counterfeit or replica, so hopefully it's real. :D

    Edited to add:

[IMG] Gotta read the posts carefully before responding.[IMG]

I completely missed the post about the coin being the size of a US dime. That makes it KM#752, 25 kurush, 1.8040g, BV about $21, VF $40, XF $50.

it has been touched. and is not in a case.. has no visible tarnish. hasent been polished that i am aware of. and has just some very tiny tiny tiny hardly noticable scratches like ones from a jean pocket etc rubbing. for all i have known it was under my winnipeg dollar for who knows how long. i just recently discovered it when i went to look at the other side of my winnipeg.

DON'T TOUCH IT any more except very carefully by the edge, and get it into protection immediately! At least a 2x2 and preferably a hard plastic container. Do a forum search on "storage" for some excellent threads on the subject.

I'm not a great fan of TPGs or their slabs, but I thank many people who are would agree with me that the value of your coin is not high enough to justify the expense of entombment.
