hi guys, just registered on your forums, i'm wondering if any coin collection experts can give me a bit of info on the following 3 coins, thank you! COIN 1 http://f-x-karts.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dontdelete/coin1.gif on the front, it says, King George . V Queen Mary on the back, to commemorate the coronation of H.M.King George V and H.M.Queen Mary 1911 COIN 2 http://f-x-karts.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dontdelete/coin2.gif very unclear writing, but i can see the date 1707 and Britannia on the front. Thanks to anyone who can say if these are worth anything. COIN 3 http://f-x-karts.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dontdelete/coin3.gif Same writing at coin 1, but differently layed out. edit : there we go, i put the wrong discription down for the last 2 coins.
Howdy Phil - Welcome to the Forum !! The first is not a coin, it is a token issued by a cocoa company as it says on the back. The second is either a penny or two pence issued in 1792 it looks like - you'd have to give us the weight and or size to tell which. The third, does not match your description but it is a coronation medal from 1911, not a coin. I can't help much with value for the first, but the value of the 2nd and 3rd will be minimal due to condition.
Thanks for your reply! The diameter on the second coin is 3.5cm. I think on the photo it looks a lot worse than it really is. Is their any good recipes for leaving coins in for the years of dirt to come off? (not a clue about any of this, so go easy on me). Anyone got a rough estimate of any of the values? They are no use to me, got passed down from my dad.
Most consider cleaning coins to be a bad thing that reduces their value - so I wouldn't recommend it. The 2nd coin is a penny - I was wrong on the date ( can see it better now ) it's a 1797. I would say value $2 or $3 at most. The coronation medal would likely be worth less than $10 due to the hole and its worn condition.
hmm =( ok thanks, this is a slightly better photo of the date, shame about the price tho =(. http://f-x-karts.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dontdelete/coin1707.gif
I'm afraid that's not a 0 in the date, but a 9. In 1707 they had a Queen, not a King ( that's George III on the coin ) - the coin had an entirely different design.
whered ya get the 1797 penny? Maybe i need to break out my medal detector.... then again i live in the city... no coins left there form 200-300 years ago Maybe i should move to some remote location, that has had consistant residents for the last couple centuries and search in some open fields there.... Maybe then i owuld be able to get some real old coins (hey, isnt the hunt more fun then the value) Baqsicaly, the coins may not be worth alot in value - but still keepers!
