3 cent nickle dd , how can this grade ms-61

    No clue what so ever ... maybe super weak strike or a blind grader. To me it clearly looks like wear.

    I think it is the die state. When you look at the RPD, it barely shows compared to the example in CPG. If a person is buying it for the variety ( and the DDO is very minor), they will be disappointed. I would grade it MS, but these coins are difficult to determine most of the time if they are borderline.

    That sure looks like wear on the bottom curl near the date. Also on the 2st and 2nd "I" on the reverse.

    Even an "average" strike on a nickel 3-cent is better than that.
    It's really quite weak.
    And I think I spotted a few bagmarks.

    I actually think NGC got it right. These are tough to grade from images and being dark makes it even tougher. At least it's not dipped to death.
