I've been focusing in on 1876 3 cent nickels for about 2 years now as a buyer/seller. There are always 40-50 1888's and roughly the same 1889's available on eBay (2 popular semi-key dates), but usually only 2-4 available of the 1876 date (circulation strikes, not proofs). The 1876 date has a much higher mintage than the 1888 and 1889, but seriously, there have been 10 times less available and sold on the bay over the past couple years. Anyone know why that may be?
Unpopular series, and a date in the middle, so, few collectors at the time. The end and beginning dates are always saved, look at the States quarters.
