Ok, this first one, IDK anything about other than it's Constans and it looks like about Fine condition. If you have any info on it please let me know. I paid $2 for this: This on is Constans also, however, I don't know the year or mint. I paid $2 for this also and it is graded a fair and is scarce: AND THE MOJO!!!! Septimus Severus silver denarius, 194-194 A.D., Graded at a Fine with an irregular flan, It is also a scarce. Worth every penny of the $25 I paid for it. LMK what you guys think P.S.: This was before I went on break that I made these purchases, so I stil havent bought anything since. stainless
Your first coin is actually Valens. DN VALEN-S PF AVG SECVRITAS-REIPVBLICAE It is from Thessalonica, and your exergue looks like TESA. RIC IX Thessalonica 18b/27b courtesy of http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htm
I can't see the back of the first one very well at all, but it certainly does look like the Valens that I have.
Your second coin is Constans A.D. 348-350 D N CONSTA-NS P F AVG pearl diademed, draped, & cuirassed bust left, holding globe in right hand FEL TEMP REPARATIO [Restoration of Happy Times] Soldier leading small figure right from hut I can't make out the exergue on this coin, but it might be SM [Sacra Moneta] at the beginning, which would narrow it down to Cyzicus, Heraclea, or Nicomedia.
Wow Stainless , really like the 1st one , exspecially for what you paid , the silver one is cool too , didn't know ancients were so cheap , always thought they cost bucho bucks . Nice . rzage
yeah, you can get a lot of nice ones for cheap, basically because there is a huge supply ou there, I am suprised I got the silver one so cheap though
Sweet, thanks a bunch for the help man. I appreciate it greatly. Thanks for the complements guys. stainless
No, it is not. Denarii are silver, while that coin is bronze. LRB's (Late Roman Bronze) are usually designated according to size. First you start with AE (for bronze) and then a number-- 1 (25mm and up) 2 (21- 25 mm) 3 (17- 21mm) 4 (less than 17mm). So yours is an AE 3. If the measurement is close (right at 17mm), you could also say AE 3/4
At major coin shows I've been to there are always quite a few ancient bronzes for dirt cheap. And some ancient silver peices that are also within most budgets.
Hello stainless. If it is of some help I have here a similar example of your second coin. Look closely at the exergue of yours ; if it says R*P like on mine, then it would be Rome mint Cucumbor
