I'm no expert on this area of numismatics, however I have noticed that certain coins from Australia, British, and India share a common weight standard of ~11.3 grams.
    Examples:
Gandhara Janapada bent bar coin (Vcoins), 6-5th century BC, 11.38 g

Akbar one rupee from the Mughals, 1586, 11.3g
    Akbar rupee 1586.jpg
British East India Company one rupee, 1835, 11.6g

    British Florin- 11.31g (from Numista)

    Australia Florin- 11.31g

Modern Australian 20 cent (replaced the florin)- 11.31g

Even the silver weight of the American 90% silver half dollars weigh 11.25 g!!
    Hope @EWC3 would chime in!
