So my local coin shop was able to get some of these and are selling them at 800 dollars(ungraded original mint packaging). Question 1 Is this a good price right now? Question 2 When/will this set lose its hype factor lose a lot of value or will it go up in value. I almost bought a 20th anniversary set 3 coin for 300 dollars earlier this year? what was the original price on that set? Did it go up in value or lose value after its hype factor was gone?
$800 sounds typical. I sold two sets to a dealer (local show) two weeks ago for $675 a set. Hype is rampant right now and it's hard to say where these sets are gonna settle at price wise. The original price for the 20th anniversary set was $100.
Ok so if do a little math thats 300%. Now at 800 dollars that is 375% mint price. Interesting. I think they will fall a little bit, people seem to just be going crazy over them, but I could be wrong and miss a good opportunity. Our coin store in town is heavily trafficked so I am actually really surprised no one bought them, though most people buy cheaper examples in Fresno... Thanks for the info
Today at the Ontario coin show several dealers told me that MS/PF 70 sets were selling like hotcakes at $1500 ea, and few sets lasted longer than an hour on the floor, so the demand is certainly there. One of the big market makers, can't remember which, was offering sets at $1250 with a minimum purchase of 10 sets, so I'm thinking we're pretty close to a floor on the price point.
It's really hard to say where this set will settle at Coincast. If you go by what happened with the 20th anniversary set, then the current set should nestle in at $900. It's a crap shoot, and risky for folks who didn't get in on the bottom floor. My feeling is that the set will settle at (raw) 2x mint issue price, but that's just me, and I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn lately....
I should Be at Ontario but I have finals Monday I could see the 70s selling like that defiantly, I would rather have a cheaper 69 thats just me My local coin store is really good at the find 70 sets to be graded so I'm sure the raw sets are 69 and under DW By floor do u mean like the low point or like in economics where the floor is high point that you don't go above.....Ahh Econ final on Monday excuse my confusedness
The graded 70 sets will always fetch a good price, PCGS more than NGC. But opened or unopened sets have already begun to drop. If I wanted a set, and I don't, I'd wait a while. Hype fades quickly. Lance.
I got in late and completely missed out on the set. I do see prices around $750-800. If this was the price after a few years I might have bought a set, but for something to go up that quickly makes me think it may drop back down. I just don't know how low it will drop. But I'm keeping my eyes open.
Hype may fade quickly but the undisputable facts are that the 20th Anniversary Sets with a Mintage of 250,000 still brings $300+ in the open market. I believe that the 25th Anniversary Sets with a mintage of 100,000 are an excellent bargain at $800 as I personally don't think these will go anywhere but up. And no, I'm not trying to hype them I'm only stating what the current Modern Coin market happens to be today. Silver Eagles are hugely popular and that fact cannot be ignored despite what current trends may be. While 100,000 appears to be a lot, I just do not think that this number is enough for the entire Silver Eagle collecting community. There is just no way and the ONLY reason that prices have dropped is due to hesitancy over where they will go and the fiasco surrounding the US Mints ordering processes. Folks are fairly steamed but then I mysalf am a little upset that I couldn't get an 09-SVDB for 1 cent. Unfortunately, thats just the way it turned out and there's nothing I can do about it. Based upon the Silver Eagle Collecting Community, I think $900 will be an acceptable price within the next couple of years.
I would not buy one for 800, but I was awfully tempted to bid on ebay for one at 550. I agree with the above, that 900 is logical within a few years.
I am not one to hype this set, however, your logic is flawed comparing them to the 20th set. The mintage is much lower, there are more coins in the set, and the coins unique to the set are double those of the 20th set. (and that is assuming that there are no varieties to the common coins, which as yet possible)
The logic isn't perfect as less were minted and it's a different set overall more desirable but it I was extrapolating of the closest thing we have to look at. Oh the calculations it's wrong too. Should be a 266% rise in price thus far
Mintproducts.com has them listed for $749.99 right now if you want to save $50. I see these settling in the $600-800 range. At this point, if you can get a PCGS 70 set for around $1,500, that may be the way to go. TC
Well....if you're going into your Econ finals and you have "floor" confused with "ceiling" then you should immediately log off the interenet and bust them books wide open, you've got a lotta work to do in the next 24 hrs!
