    25c 2005P Min. Fracture!

I found this hairline fracture, looked like a scratch.. but it only goes from the side of the bust, across the letters to the rim not going over the rim or bust. Any ideas? I'm working on the pics :p

BTW It's in the center of the pics, from the 'corner' of the bust across the Q and U. It is very hairline, I am unable to determine wither is of concave (a scratch) or convex (more expensive than a scratch).

It has a globlike appearence, which led me to believe it was a fracture. It is lightly shaded, and not dark/light like a scratch. I may be wrong, but I'd like a second opinion. With enough coercion, I may take it to a local coinshop (Quincy Center, MA) for a better look.

Looks like a crack from a well worn die. The lettering has some mechanical doubling also.

No, the doubling is some kind of light effect. I just checked under a magnifying glass.... I wish I could find my eyepiece! The 'fracture' looked even more convincing up close, the way the light reflects off it makes me believe more that it sticks up rather than sinks in :)

I found my eyepiece. I'm still baffled. At more spots than not, though, it looks like it is coming out from the coin. Also, the line goes in between the letters, and goes all the way 100% from bust to rim, NOT going over either of them.

It would most likely be a die crack. It may not show up on the top of the letters because effective striking pressure is lower here, and might not have been great enough to force the metal into the crack. This is a very common area for die cracks to develop in quarters. Thin die cracks are very common on quarters.

The coin has Next to no value above its face for this type of crack,,
