I read in coin world that there are over 40K of the edge errors...the mint was quoted as saying they are not sure how many were sent out of the PA Fed Bank that did not have the edge lettering!! Worth-less in these high numbers!!! RickieB
The mint has no better guess than anyone else----these are errors so the mint has no idea how many are really out there... Speedy
Today I received my smooth rim coin. I have already sent it to ANACS to be graded, Authenicated and slabbed. Looking at the edge of this coin I notice that it is copper in color. The ones with writing are gold in color, interesting.
You know, If only 25,000 were minted, it's going to be worth a lot of money. 42/1 about 30,000 minted. 55DD about 20,000 minted
True And speaking of errors. I sent an email to an ebay seller advertising the upsidedown writing as a error and that it is 50/50. Apparently he dosn't understand numbers becuase his response was just "upsidedown will be more rare."
edge letters I can't believe people still think that the edge lettering is supposed to be the same on all the coins. I read about that a month before they came out that only the coins in the special sets would have the letters "up". all the bussines strikes would be random.
copper edge I would be a little worried that someone removed the edge lettering if the coin is a different color on the edge.
I was just looking closely at the edge of my dollar and it looks like there are fine lines, almost as if it was ground. I hope this is not the case... It is from Jacksonville, but the fine lines scare me.
Read the article in Coin world I was talking about and and it tells you what to look for on cut coins..mass and size!! There are unknown #s out there in the tens of thousands!!! I would not buy one of these coins... RickieB
I think the coin doctors will be able to double that mintage easy. Wouldn't surprise me if some are already selling on Fleabay.
