I was looking through some auctions and came across this. Sounds like it is plated? What do you think? I think it is plated. Here is the link:

I would say that it hasn't been plated but I would say that the date has been re-worked---note the 4....I would say that it was a coin dated 1953 before someone worked it over.

Since the description states it is attracted to a magnet, it probably was plated. The 3 does match a 43 better than a 53.

 

True----I wasn't thinking about the types of "3" that they used....
