I don't know, are you sure about the grade? I mean as an unc?

Perhaps it is the pic, but I would say the coin would go AU at best.

maybe high au, 21's are supposed to be sharper when uncs, from what i've read.

Aren't high relief designs supposed to have a sharper strike? Thats the whole purpose of a high relief design, right? To have a sharper strike to provide more detail. If thats certainly the case then there's no possible way this can be an MS coin. The hair looks too flat for me to buy into an MS. Id have to say low AU or even XF45. Although the reverse looks better to me than the obverse.

In many cases yes, but in this one it is quite unusual to find a sharply struck '21 Peace dollar. Nearly all of them were weakly struck and have flat hair details. But there is a difference between being weakly struck and having wear - I think this coin has wear.

Am I missing something? I am almost sure that this is the same coin posted - -LINK - -. Back then everyone agreed that it was MS-63. Make up your minds!

I didn't post in that thread either. The pics are giving me a little bit of a rough time. I think it is a slider AU coin though.

Its XF/AU cleaned. The cleaning will make it unslabbable (is that a word? ) The lower grade and the cleaning makes it abouty a 100.00 to 125.00 coin.

    Thanks,
    Bill

IMO the grade goes high AU if not better. I think the reverse is very sharp. Good for you.

You are correct it is the same coin. However the pics are entirely different in this thread and as has been stated many times - pictures can be very misleading.

If the buyer calls it MS63 then sellit as such. The grading system allowes for this.

Pictures can make a huge difference. I have had coins which myself and both of my nearby dealers, and people I showed them to at shows were all certain were MS coins. But when posted here, alot of people thought they were XF or AU - people who's opinions I respect alot. But from the pictures, its just hard to say. However, although I don't consider myself good at grading, from these pictures I would have to say that peace dollar has wear on it.

Ok... Finally something here in this forum that is right in my wheelhouse!!!

First, the 1921 Peace Dollar typically is lightly struck at the center. Both the hair of Miss Liberty and the body of the eagle are expected on a 1921 to be lightly struck. Any example that has sharp detail there will command a significant premium.

That said... Your coin IMHO is an AU at best. The coin not only is lightly struck at the hair on Miss Liberty, but it looks like a slight rub there as well. It is however hard to tell from pictures.

As for the crowd here being a bit more critical of your coin, take it for what it is worth. They have no dog in this fight, so their opinions are probably more honest IMHO. Their track record is pretty good I would say as this group is very knowledgeable. But as with any opinion, it is just that, an opinion.
