Die Chip. Worn die issue. We've seen a few recently.
I believe they call it Drooling mouth.

It seems like the mint is "over using" the dies for new coins, or at least not catching dies that are deteriorating and need to be replaced, than they used to. Lots of new issue coins with die chips and MD.

I have found at least ten or so of these 2022 quarters with this same die chip.

 

Minted by a worn die but that’s a great place for a die chip yo be. Nice find.

You just don’t think about it. It’s happened to all of us. Some times it’s left, some apologize and leave it alone and others edit the other posts and say something else. No worries.
