2022 Lincoln shield cent

    I'm not even going to begin to guess what this is, except lamentation. But why does it look like there was a copper coating on there.     My guess: this coin sat in some moisture and became corroded ( maybe in a drink holder).

    It’s definitely stained and the green is causing damage as it’s eating the coin away. It was exposed to something and now that it’s started you need to spend it or keep well away from other coins.

    You asked why does there look like a copper coating was there. That's because all circulation cents produced today are copper plated.

    Definitely not any Lamination..

    I call those Urine Damaged Cents :yack:

    Harsh acidic liquids can affect Copper plated zinc cents. I see them all the time in NYC.

    That's why you should always wash your hands after handling coins.
