Can anyone tell me if this is a clad error or just a dirty dime? Please and thank you These pics are the front and back of said coin
Hello and welcome to Cointalk, The answers to your question is no. It has environmental exposure toning damage.. Clad dimes are composed of Cupronickel. It's copper mixed with nickel. When the coin is exposed to a harsh environment for an extended period of time the copper will tone a darker color. Here are some metal detected clad coins I have found in dirt, soil and sand. Nickels are also composed of Cupronickel.
