Definitely the Blakesley effect. @Gorham_Collector Neat incomplete planchet. (Not ever clipped at anytime) Can you show the curved edge? It should be plated. Thanks for sharing.
FYI for anyone interested A very easy confirmation for copper plated zinc cent incomplete planchets is to look at the missing edge. It will be copper plated. The planchet process punches the blanks from zinc strips and this is where incomplete planchets occur. The blanks are then copper plated. If the edge shows zinc, it's been ground/damaged after it left the mint
Thing is about this coin, it is not a Mint Error coin. Not that it matters really, just a point of interest for some folks.
Yeah we could say the same for doubled dies and rpms (varieties) they are Not errors. The forum name should be changed to “Varieties and Errors” so people know they can post in this forum but also distinguish between the two in a way by the name. I’ve contacted the people who run coin talk hopefully they take it into consideration would be smart.
I've been on CoinTalk long enough to know that it has been recommended for the name change. The answer is always no.
I'm curious to know why you think that. I'm not saying that you are wrong but I'm sure others would want to also know.
Me as well. This can confuse the novices to the hobby. This coin has a premium, and what alurid did say could make people think it’s pmd when it’s actually not and have no value.
I think the issue is that the incomplete planchet was created before it arrived at the US Mint to be minted as a Cent. So since it did not occur at the Mint it's considered a Pre-Mint issue. That's what he might be thinking. I see it differently since it was part of the process to eventually have the Cent minted to me it's definitely a Mint Error. But that's my opinion.
As you continue as a member you'll get to know the mods (especially the mustached man in the hat ) and owner. They tend to be fair and constant and make very few changes to the site. I agree that a few minor things could be updated, but the site works well, so I can see why they don't mess with it
You don’t see clips on shield cents really at all scarce. I’ve seen a double clipped 2018, 2019 clipped, 2016, and 2017. They don’t come up often
