I found this BU Lincoln in a roll search. BIG crater in Lincoln’s neck. It honestly looks like some sort of struck-through error to me, but if there is a better explanation I’d love the input from others here.

Just a contact mark from another coin, PMD…imo…Spark

    Hmmmm….

I’m not sure I agree. I’ll have to chew on that a bit. The whole reason I posted this is that the mark does not look like a typical “hit” from a collision with another coin. I’ve seen untold thousands of contact marks. They typically are thinner and more linear in appearance. More like getting sliced open with a knife. This looks like Abe went to the dermatologist to get a mole removed and they scooped it off his neck with a tiny ice cream scooper, leaving a moon-like crater behind. It does not seem like the edge of another cent could make that sort of scooped out depression just by bouncing off of this coin while moving around in a mint bag. Anyways, that was my assessment, but I freely confess I could be wrong.

I’m interested in hearing some more opinions on this one, but thanks for offering your assessment.

Any non-reeded edged coin, another cent or a nickel, could have made this depression on the coin. My bet is it came from another cent…imo…Spark

Just to clarify, Ed is quick to point out errors in nomenclature, so this was just a "dig." LOL
