Found 3 of these a couple weeks ago searching uncirculated rolls for w's. Crazy how the die chip ended up that shape exactly on his ear.
Those are just some nice gift from LowellWashington and her are on a honeymoon. Actually it's possible for this to happen.9ball had a perfect circular die chip in the top (8) of a 1983 Lincoln cent he liked to call Lincolns purse.
In my opinion it is not the same issue. In the case of the Die Chip forming on the number 8, the area in question easily broke away on the Die due to overuse. This issue is right in the middle of the ear. If it were a Die Chip I can't see how or why on that spot. There's no sign of Die Deterioration anywhere else on the Quarter in question.
Forgot that I also found this one at the same time as the other 3. Looks like half the chip of the other 3. Must've been made earlier on before the chip became a full circle.
Nothing is simple lol of course, possibly just defective machinery?which wouldn't surprise me causing some odds and ends(mint made damage instead).
@nrk77 So.. I looked around and found this item on EBay NGC recognizes it as a Die Chip The price is way to high for a die deterioration issue but now we know what it is.
Yep. how to turn a quarter into bigger $$$. Up to $8500. Wish I could find out who bought one as I have DEALS for that person.
