Hi I have this quarter that has strange marks on reverse like someone took a wire brush to it. It has a little on obverse by mint mark and by IN. Pretty sure it is a PMD and not the mint. Thanks have a great day it is gorgeous here in Cincinnati Ohio. 2018 MN Quarter rev side.jpg 2018P MN quarter rev.jpg 2018P MN quarter obv.jpg 2018 MN Quarter mintmark.jpg

Those are striations on the field and around the relief areas. It's the result of a worn die.
Nothing to do with a wire brush.

The obverse has been scrapped. Those marks on the reverse are another sign of a worn tired die that has been overworked. You’re getting better at this Laurie. :)

I am glad I asked then. I could see some idiot out there doing that lol. Going to keep it and put it in my worn die samples. Something told me to ask and I did yeah.

There are many ways a coin can get scraped.
Someone could of dropped the coin and stepped on it my mistake. Not hard enough to badly scrape it but just a light scrape. Doesn't make that person an idiot. All of us at some point in our lives scrape, break, scratch, bend, burn things and even ourselves no matter how careful we try to be.

:jawdrop:.. Coins won't stay looking perfect forever. That's why it is called circulation wear and tear.

So true an accident happens all the time to coins it is the intentional ones that makes you wonder why.o_O

Because the person that intentionally damaged the coin was bored. :)

Nope. It's because of the season. Yep! Season. It's Duck season that's why. ;)

My first thought was a worn die, but upon a closer look, I'd say in was a poorly cleaned die, done at the mint. Someone cleaned the die and did a p-poor job of polishing it. JMHO
