I recently received this coin and I am looking for opinions on it. I am a Canadian error collector and seek lots of interesting coins and this one peaked my interest. just to be clear, it is mint sealed so it left the mint this way. I did post this on another site and was told what it isn't but no one could tell me what it is. to me it really doesn't matter if it is an error or damage. what I see is a mystery that needs exploring. all comments are appreciated!
Looks like post minting damage, but the damage was done at the mint. If you did want to get it slabbed, you would need to send it in in the packaging so that they would know you didn't do it. Nice find. They happen.
I am curious how this damaged happened. in my opinion the damage was caused by another coin because the edge reeding is incused into the damaged area. but how it was able to not damage the other side of the coin and yet leave such an imprint in this coin?
Looks like a " Disk Clip " to me . http://dniewcollectors.blogspot.com/2013/09/1969-20-cents-with-disk-clip-errors.html
I know now that due to the way the rim has been pushed in, it has to be damaged after strike but before it was packaged. it also has edge reeding incused into the damaged area so it was likely another quarter that did the damage. I just can't believe how neat and perfect the damaged area is. I struggle to come up with a viable solution how to create such a perfect indent and no damage anywhere else on the coin. I think it would take a lot of pressure to create this.
