Is this anything to get excited about? I'm having flashbacks to the hype over doubling on the Effigy Mounds quarter that lasted almost a day.
I think I see some splitting. I could be wrong though...It's been known to happen before. Just ask my wife
Looks like you have something there. Best get that checked by an expert pronto. Never a better time than to be the first recognized in a new discovery. If it is and was mine it would be slabbed asap and sent off to Heritage.
I would be excited!!!! You might have a big money coin there. On a special proof coin. Yea you should get that to Wexler asap. If it is what it looks like it will make coin world!!! Good luck!!!
That lettering is raised, correct? If it isn't incuse lettering I would be very excited. If incuse, not so much.
It is incuse. That's what made me think of the Effigy quarter. Does this look like a type of machine doubling that's common for incuse lettering?
Dang! It doesn't have the "smeared" look I often see on the Nat. Park quarters, but the incuse lettering gets thinner and distorted on doubled dies. It works the opposite of normal. It shows well on BUS on 2013P-DDR-001. http://varietyvista.com/01e LC Doubled Dies Vol 5/2013PDDR001 cent.htm The image below is from webpage above, by James Wiles I might would still have it looked at. I thought for sure it was a doubled die until you said it was incuse.
As mentioned above, If the lettering is incused, it's hard to determine from the photos. It looks like a DD, but someone will have to view the coin in-hand to make that determination.
It's no longer an anomaly. These are three different dollars from the same box of mint sets. Same photography setup, position and focal point. The only difference is that the first two are still in the Mint holder and the third is in a flip.
I think this is a common occurrence on this coin. I have 4 sets that all show this on the 'script' lettering on the East side. They are not smeared like the ATB quarters typically show, but have distinct 'doubling' of the whole letters. Mine do have the outer smear on the USA side. I don't think they are true DD, but just look different from the typical MD of incuse lettering. Like Fred stated above, a more experienced person needs to see these in hand.
Yes, I'll be the Long Beach Show, as I have for the past 46 years. I'll be glad (and interested!) to see the coin in-hand at my table (# 833)
IMO, the coin is machine doubled as the appearance of machine doubling on incused lettering looks authentic but is not. My EU Sacs ALL show this type of doubling in one or multiple locations.
I just looked at a fourth EU set from a different order than the first three. Same doubling. Does anyone have an Enhanced Sacagawea without reverse doubling?
I do. It's the first thing I looked for when my set came. Your images were so good I wanted to study it. None of my coins, even the quarters, exhibit the incuse MD.
