An odd 2017 p with what seems to be some kinda die clash going on? I can see txt in his face,in front of his nose, along the front of his jacket, along the side his chin. Also some wierd kinda doubling in his eye/eyelid..ect. Am I just seeing things?
This time you are seeing things.. In your last thread on the nice die clash you shared with us I provided a picture of a Lincoln Memorial overlay. Only what you see in the overlay can be a clash. On this Cent in question you should google Shield Cent overlay so you can see what would be a clash. I believe what you may be seeing is because of the plating. Small bubbles or blisters.
Yes Yes you have. You've found a neat new term now you're trying to attribute everything new to it. That's not how it works.
Over time you will see a lot of Post Mint Damage, circulation wear and tear, intentional damage, environmental damage and minor plating issues that will make you wonder.. The only way to learn is to ask! Just like you did with the neat Die Clash. It will drive you crazy.. I lost my mind years ago collecting this stuff called errors! But in 34 years I have learned enough and have been able to amass such a huge collection that it is a good craziness! You just started buddy.. You have no idea how much you need to learn!
The key thing to remember is that these coins are in circulation. They get damaged. For instance, take everything that you have that is special and cared for - watches, crystal vases & glasses, special jewelry, silver plated plates, antiques, etc and put them all in a bag. Then shake it really hard for 15 minutes. What happens to the stuff ? Gets all dinged (and smashed) up right ? Well ..that's *exactly* what happens to coins made for circulation (purses, cash registers, coin counting machines, etc etc etc). They get damaged and dinged up all the time because they are used as money. Add to that for zincolns as they damage themselves. You don't even have to help them. You're doing good. There's another thread about a zincoln that is pure pareidolia right now. LOL
Think of how a "clash" occurs during the process, & think of what a die looks like. On the obverse die, Abe's head would be a void (read: depression) in the die. The first part touching, creating the clash, is typically in the field. So when you don't see at least part of the clash in the field (either obverse or reverse) then you most likely do not have a "clash".
