Bear in mind that a die clash that shows on the reverse of the coin would have to be made by some device from the obverse die. So, what do you think might have caused those marks? Chris
I would guess by a device, was not sure so that is why I asked because other thread someone said possible die clashes, and they also asked for more cropped pics of ear on " obverse "
Think of a Venn diagram. Imagine a big rectangle representing all things that can cause a mark on a newish coin. Now imagine a tiny circle inside that rectangle. No, a smaller circle. That represents the number of things that are in the minting process that can cause the marks. Now slice that tiny little circle "pie" into about six slices. One of those slices represents die clashes. Now, proceed.
My original thought was a clash with Lincoln's bust, but the shape of the mark doesn't seem to match up with that in any way... so now I'm thinking it's just a mark that occurred post-mint
