Sorry folks, but no photos due to my limited capabilities and the specifics do not photograph well. I believe I have found an obverse (quite a few actually) TDO's. It appears beneath the "Lib" in "Liberty" and over the date. Has anyone yet found anything similar? Not that many of you are looking at these, just hoping maybe someone else found something similar. Thank you. Tom @Fred Weinberg
I haven't noticed anything like that, but I do have a pile of 2017Ps that I could search through and see if i see something that seems like it could be.
What is "an obverse TDO's" please? Oh! Tripled Die on the obverse. Thank you Google (Edited to correct 'triple' to 'tripled') EGADDDS!
Actually it looks to be Trail Die Obverse (TDO). No doubling. I am sorry, all I have is my scanner. I don't own a cell phone to use an attachment on and I've never quite got the scanner settings right to do white balance and tone down the brilliance of a B.U. coin.
Oh! Trail Die Obverse! A quick survey of the below website informs me that I have come across many (and put aside at least a half dozen or so of) the coin with trail die obverse: 1993P-1DEO-005 060° Seems to me that almost every 1993 I come across has this effect on the date at least. I saw so many of them that I stopped setting them aside and tossed them back into the "back to bank" bag. http://www.traildies.com/1993p-1deo/ I was under the impression (after reading on CT for some months) that these were unimportant and undesirable (to collectors) die defect effects. Thank you.
Thanks so much for the lead. The site will only allow me to click on the reverse trail die, not the obverse. Could be a glitch but I'm getting closer. Thanks so much again. They are not worth a whole lot but still collectible to the right person/s. I just did not want to pass them by w/o knowing for sure. I did think at first it could have been streaking of the plating but they did stand out quite nicely.
The site works fine for all the other 2017 reverse trail dies except for the 2017P obverse. It's just a dead link for those. And there are 10 listed but no access to the photos. Thanks so much for trying though. I'll try sending them a message to see what's going on.
Naturally, when I went to find some of the 1993s I described, I could not put my hand right on them. I’m sure I’ll come across them or another soon because I do not find these to be very uncommon. I will post as soon as I come across them. Here is another site dealing with 2017p obverse http://www.doubleddie.com/index.html
