My Mother and I recently ordered 2017 Kennedy half dollars from the mint: the two roll set (mint number 17kb). Like every year we open them up and put them in paper flips to give to the family and young kids in the neighborhood that we like. We always keep one roll separate from the other: the "p"s from the "d"s . We both looked at them closely and it seemed as if the "d"s had a more Proof-like finish and the "p"s had a more satin-like finish. Has anyone else seen this? I'll be the first to acknowledge, I don't know much about coin collecting.

I've seen what appears to be 'satiny' and I've seen what appears to be 'proof like' (roll end coins) but I never investigate further......I leave my rolls be. :)

I'd leave them alone. Just depends on how new the dies were when they were struck. No big deal IMO

Hmmm, interesting. Maybe the Philadelphia Mint does things differently than Denver ("Dude, how many times did we strike that?").

BTW, I thought the USMint had something special planned for the 2017 half dollar -- to celebrate the 100th anniversary of JFK's birthday.
