Old Fred was writing on the paper but since he is looking at us and not watching what he is doing he also wrote on the table.
Just out of curiosity, I examined 5 of the 2017 DC quarters from my laundry change, and none of them have this anomaly. So, I am guessing that they are a gouge on the die. Chris
Thanks for your time. what would you say the rarity of this variety would be and is there attributor that I can send it in.or 2x2 it for my collection what would you do if you had found this coin?
Cool find. If I found it, it would go in a 2x2. Die gouges happen and are not super rare, but fun to find.
FWIW, I would probably send it to Wexler for the attribution, but it just wouldn't be worth submitting it for grading at this time. The TPG's might not even recognize it. If Wexler determines that it is attributable, then you would at least have record of it for "Discovery" purposes. You can always submit it for grading at a later date. Keep in mind that condition will play an important role in determining its value after grading. Chris
