    Environmental damage, either that or someone put a shoe shine to it! :D Value=25 cents, better luck next time!

    It's not a W quarter. It's environmental damage. Rust.
    It could have been a metal detecting find put back in circulation. The soil contains all kinds of things, elements, acids, moisture, pollution that discolor the coin.

    Can you look at this 1970 quarter. It looks like doubling on the lettering and the mint mark looks strange

    Worn die, you see the rim ridge ring, sure sign of a die in an advanced stage of deterioration. The MM looks like it took a hit, IMO

    When you say took a hit do you mean it got in a drunken brawl at the train station on the way to the bank?
