I have bought a few 2016 Silver Eagles. I have a few ungraded (both proof and uncirculated), PF70 and MS69 coins. They all lack reeded edges and have the 30th Anniversary lettered edge as expected. I bought a 2016 Silver Eagle MS 70 from an EBay seller and it has a reeded edge. At first I thought maybe only the proof coins had the smooth edge with lettering. I did a number of google searches with no definitive answers. Then I looked at my coins. The ungraded, PF70s and MS69 all have the lettering. What gives? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Larry
Recognition of the 30th anniversary of the American Eagle silver dollar was mandated under provisions of legislation passed and signed into law in December 2015 requiring edge lettering on all 2016 silver American Eagles except the bullion version, which retains the traditional reeded edge.
Pics might help. Do post some. As for the 'ungraded' '70 & '69? That's only the opinion of the seller. No substantiation from a bonafide third party.
Thanks for the replies! I am surprised that the answer was not readily available via the searches I did before asking here. I tried a bunch of different parameters, but couldn't find the answers provided so quickly from this forum.
