2016 Quarter fort moultrie

    I was searching today and found this quarter in my pocket change. Upon further looking I found extra clad inside the open area on the back between the flag and stick. Pic shows more details. Let me know what you think.

    If you're referring to the area just above the shoulder, I'm guessing that it is a die chip.

    Is that an error? Something to go in a collection of throw it away? Was interesting to me....

    First, it isn't "extra clad". There is always the same amount of metal (within tolerances) in every planchet. It's just that when a portion of the die breaks away or cracks, metal will automatically flow into the void when the coin is struck.

    Personally, I don't collect minor die breaks like this unless a could establish a growing progression of die states.
