Ive possibly discovered a Copper 2016 P Jefferson nickel that has been struck on a copper planchet. Please look at the photos I have attached. Some have been taken with my coin microscope. The entire coin is dark brown.
If it were struck on a copper planchet intended for a cent then it would be the same size, width and weight of a Cent Planchet. So your nickel is not struck on a copper Planchet. Nickels are composed of Cupronickel. It's a mixture of copper and nickel. So the copper can tone depending on environmental exposure factors. That would be call environmental exposure toning. Always post full pictures of the Obverse and reverse sides of your coin whenever asking a question. It could also be an Improperly Annealed planchet but it hard to determine that with those pictures.
That is toning, Copper nickel can tone in many ways. Here is a cupro-nickel clad Quarter. This is environmental damage.
If it was struck on a copper planchet it wouldn’t be dated 2016. All copper planchets were done away with in mid-1982. You have a nickel that has toned nicely due to the environmental conditions it has been subjected to since it was minted.
I agree with Spark on this one. It does have some environmental damage, but in my opinion the coin is beautifully toned.
