They don't have to be worn out to crack. There's a lot of pressure these are being put under each time they strike. Any imperfection or other anomaly in the die can allow it to crack at any time. But the obverse does look worn out, especially the date.
The weak date is almost exactly beneath the reverse die crack. I wonder if there is a reason or if this is only coincidence.
Just coincidence. 2014,2015,2016 dimes have been used to the limit & poor strikes with weak dates are very common. BTW I just found this ones brother in even better condition. I’ll post it later to this thread
